Northern Italy is by far our most popular offering in Western Europe. This 11-day cultural program highlights all the special sights, sounds, scents, and tastes that have made this magical place a must for even the most seasoned traveller. This is a highlight-packed though well-paced journey from Rome to Siena, Pisa, the Cinque Terre, and incomparable Florence. Our special brand of travel allows for a thorough and varied experience, with the greater flexibility afforded by our small group size.

Day 1 • Arrival in 'Eternal' Rome.

Day 2 • Rome: the Forum and Colosseum.

Day 3 • Rome: The Vatican, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps.

Day 4 • To Siena, ‘queen’ of Tuscany's Hill Towns. Walking tour of Siena.

Day 5 • Morning visit to San Gimignano, the Manhattan of Tuscany.

Day 6 • Morning drive to Volterra, dramatic Etruscan town. Visit Museo Guarnacci, one of Italy's best collections of Etruscan artifacts. Continue to Lerici via Pisa's Duomo and Baptistery.

Day 7 • Cinque Terre—easy-paced rugged coastal villages walk.

Day 8 • To Florence and a walking tour, including the Accademia and Michelangelo's David.

Day 9 • Florence: Duomo & Ponte Vecchio

Day 10 • At leisure in Florence. PM optional Tuscan cooking class.

Day 11 • Departure from Florence.

ACCOMMODATION
Well-located, air-conditioned, mid-range hotels and inns (3-star) used throughout. Some hotels are smaller properties (3-4 storEy) that may not have elevators. All hotels have en suite bath, though some may have shower only. Porter service is sometimes available though you should be independent with your luggage. Single rooms are limited in number and likely smaller than twins.

TRANSPORT & TRAVEL CONDITIONS
Road transport by private air-conditioned motor coach, 24-36 seats depending on ultimate group size (see 'group size'). 2nd class day train to Siena. Though we will have some full bus days, road travel is not particularly arduous as there are plenty of stops of interest and beautiful scenery along the way. Road are in good condition, though a little winding on some stretches. Walking tours on cobbled surfaces.

WEATHER/SEASONALITY
This tour is offered in spring and autumn when temperatures are mild, crowds thinner, and air fares lower. Spring is popular with visitors who enjoy green landscapes and wildflowers. The region has a mild Mediterranean climate with early springs, long hot and dry summers, and autumns that are bright and warm into late October. Showers are possible in spring and autumn.
